Capoeira
is an interdisciplinary art form that combines
martial arts disguised
with acrobatics and dance in the form of a game set to live music giving
it a unique contagious energy. It is emphasizes culture, history and
self-awareness.
It was created by African slaves in Brazil as a form of resistance to
slavery, and proliferated throughout Brazil and the world predominantly
by Manuel dos Reis Machado (Mestre Bimba), creator of Capoeira Regional,
and recognized as one of the most important contributors to the
preservation and dissemination of Brazilian culture.
